Children and Parenting Support (CaPS)
What do we do?
Our Children and Parenting Support team provides services to families living in Tamworth and in the Liverpool Plains; areas such as Quirindi, Werris Creek, Walhallow, and surrounding areas. We offer home visiting to families who live in remote areas or are unable to access transport.
Our Children and Parenting Support workers enhance the knowledge and confidence of parents as well as, improving educational, social and health outcomes for their children. The Children and Parenting Support workers aim to assist families by solving problems early, through linking families into a wide range of supportive networks. Our Children and Parenting Support workers assist families with children 0 - 12 years.
We believe every family is special and unique. The Children and Parenting Support workers takes a collaborative approach, by working in partnership with families to address the issues that concern and affect them.
Who can use this service?
Any parents/carers with a child aged 0 -12 years can access this service; however, priority will be given to young parents, single fathers, single mothers and parents identifying as Aboriginal.
Why does my family need this service?
Families access our service for a wide range of reasons, such as:
- Advice on parenting strategies and child development;
- Sharing information on a wide range of topics;
- Advocacy with other services, for example, Housing, Centrelink, Health and Education;
- Assisting with preparing a family budget;
- Promoting healthy eating/lifestyles;
- School readiness;
- Parenting workshops;
The Children and Parenting Support team views parents as experts who know what is best for their family. Our philosophy is to provide support and information to empower families, so that the family can identify their own needs, make their own decision and reach their family goals!
Parenting Skills and Support Groups
We offer practical solutions for everything from: tantrums to toilet training; to skills development and life skills training for school aged children (9-12yrs)! Throughout the year, our service offers groupwork programs for those who want to learn more about the most difficult job in the world – being a parent! Whether you want to address specific behaviour problems or just want general information about parenting, we have the right course for you – and it’s free! We offer the highly successful, accredited programs: TRIPLE P and 123 Magic!. Childcare is provided for all group workshops. Spaces are limited, so call now to reserve your place in our next group.
We’re also linking closely with schools to deliver programs that will help: students to achieve personal goals, boost self esteem, address bullying, promote healthy lifestyles, enhance connection building to families and other education aspects like high school transitions.
Families may be self-referred or referred by another service. TFSS believes that family is important, and that all people, regardless of their circumstances, have a right to control their own lives and be respected as individuals. Our services are free of charge, private and confidential. We aim to build trusting and professional relationships that recognise and respect your family’s culture, background and unique situation.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. AS AN EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICE WE ARE UNABLE TO ASSIST FAMILIES WITH COMPLEX NEEDS, SUCH AS CHILD PROTECTION ISSUES OR SERIOUS FAMILY VIOLENCE.
