DV Memorial Events in Tamworth and Narrabri

Tamworth Family Support Service (TFSS) hosted Domestic Violence Memorial on Wednesday (4 May 2022) from 6pm until 8pm.

Memorial events were held in Tamworth and Narrabri, as part of the Light a Candle 2022 initiative.

TFSS Homelessness and Domestic Violence Manager Lynda Townsend said that she was thankful to NSW Police, local schools, community works and members of the public who attended.

“It is so sad when you realise that twenty women and five children have died as a direct result of domestic violence since 1st July, 2021,” said Mrs Townsend.

“We hope that this event will spark a conversation between family and friend; as it is never too early to learn about an issue that may impact those nearest and dearest,” said Mrs Townsend.

“This is a powerful event to show support and raise awareness for those who may have experienced domestic violence and those fighting to put an end to domestic violence,” said Mrs Townsend.

TFSS works with women experiencing domestic violence across the New England Northwest.

Whenever police attend a Domestic Violence (DV) incident, contact details are passed onto the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) team to offer support to women experiencing domestic violence.

The Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) team supports women to stay safely in their home following separation from a violent partner.
